Best Song Title Ever(?)

Best Song Title Ever(?)

“The Black Hawk War, or, How to Demolish an Entire Civilization and Still Feel Good About Yourself in the Morning, or, We Apologize for the Inconvenience But You’re Going to Have to Leave Now, or, ‘I have fought the Big Knives and will continue to fight them until they are off our lands!‘“.

Or maybe it’s “Come on! Feel the Illinoise!“.  Or maybe “To the Workers of the Rockford River Valley Region, I have an Idea Concerning Your Predicament, and it involves shoe string, a lavender garland, and twelve strong women”.  Or maybe “Let’s Hear That String Part Again, Because I Don’t Think They Heard It All the Way Out in Bushnell”.

I know some will find the recently announced song titles for Sufjan Stevens’ upcoming Illinois album (which comes out on July 5!) trite, pretentious, or just plain silly.  I, on the other hand, love them.  But then again, I seem predisposed to liking pretty much everything the man does.

The truth will be known when the cd comes out, but I can’t forsee how this man could do any wrong.

I do: he could die of old age before making an album of my home state. Let’s hope he either dramatically increases album production, or lives to be 120.

I agree.  I want “Louisiana”, by Sufjan Stevens, NOW.

I don’t.  For all the things Sufjan has an neat interpretive understanding of, the South is not one of them. He can stay above the mason-dixon, thanks, and John Darnielle’s “All Hail West Texas” will get us through.

Actually I think Sufjan doing songs about the south would kick ass.  He will probably get some help from his friends the Castanets or maybe even DEE.  All sparse minimal dread with songs about serial killers and skulls and such.

A Sufjan/DEE collaboration… I don’t know if the world is ready for that.

    But I sure am!

David Eugene Edwards interview from sept 2003: http://www.adequacy.net/int/16hp/index.shtml
DOA: I know you’re working on a project with Dan Smith…. So how far along is the project that you are working on with him?

DEE: Uh, I think we have like six songs or something like that. And he’s bringing in different people to play different things. This guy, Sufjan Stevens, is playing on the record, and of course Daniel and his brothers and sisters. Yeah, it’s nice.

Thanks for posting that!  It’s some of the best news I’ve heard all month.
