Black Moth Super Rainbow

Black Moth Super Rainbow

Aaron over at Almostcool just posted his review of Black Moth Super Rainbow’s Start A People, giving it a 7 out of 10.  While I’m not sure if it’ll make my fave albums list by year’s end, Start A People is still a great album worth checking out, especially if you’re a fan of stuff like Boards Of Canada (albeit with a much more lo-fi twist).  My review can be found here, or you can head on over to the band’s website for MP3s and whatnot.

Thanks for the link. Like many releases I’ve heard in the last year, it’s a little disc that I enjoyed, but also felt that it could have been made stronger by relying a little less on gimmicks (IE filters and lo-fi production and whatnot). I realize that with the advent of technology (and the ability to revert easily), the temptation is always there (believe me, I know!) to do more, more, more with your sound, but sometimes you gotta let those melodies and unfettered bits creep through. Sometimes I feel like musical inadequacies are covered up with effects, and thus my score wasn’t higher (on a somewhat similar note, this is the same reason I can’t completely embrace Mr. Christian Fennesz).

I’m very happy you recommended that album and that I ended up purchasing it. It’s repetitive, it’s gimmicky, and all that, but seeing as the theme they are repeating is one I love so much, it’s little to complain about.
