Do Make Say Think

Do Make Say Think

Now that I’m older, I’m less interested in making it out to every single concert that comes down the pipe.  Sure, back in the day, I’d hit a couple of shows a week, but I guess I just can’t keep up with the kids anymore.  And besides, some of us have to work in the morning.

That being said, there are still a handful of bands that I wish to see in concert, and Do Make Say Think is right near the top of the list.  Unfortunately, the band rarely makes it below the Canadian border, but Pitchfork just reported that the band is planning a North American tour.  Unfortunately, the closest show is probably Chicago—and it’s smack dab in the middle of the week.  Oh well… sometimes you’ve got to make sacrifices for the rock.

If you haven’t heard Do Make Say Think, I highly recommend picking up their albums, especially amp; Yet & Yet and Winter Hymn Country Hymn Secret Hymn.  Although the band usually seems to be overshadowed by the more apocalyptic-minded labelmates in Godspeed You Black Emperor!, DMST is easily the Constellation Record‘s most consistent, intriguing, and underrated band.

I totally agree about DMST being the most consistent band on the Constellation roster (and in fact they seem to get better with each release). I’m completely torn on travelling as far as Chicago to see them live, though. They’ve got a long long break between their Seattle and Minneapolis show, maybe one of us should convince them to make a Nebraska detour… :)

But I wonder who we could get to open for them? ;)

crap. Stop reporting on all these sweet bands. I can’t keep up. I can’t wait to go see them when they stop in Minneapolis.

DMST are a really good band.  I don’t have the latest CD but I really appreciated their first couple.  I saw them play in Vancouver with Fly Pan Am.  They were great.  Fly Pan Am?  Not so great.  I didn’t like them.  Do your best to check them out.  Having DMST play a double-bill with GYBE! would be killer.

do make say think is one of the few bands within “that genre” i still listen to. they manage to keep their music interesting and challenge the montreal collective’s constant repitition.

I hadn’t heard them until your post on the band the other day. I checked them out and by golly you are right. Do Make Say Think kept me from getting to bed on time last night because I couldn’t bare to stop the music. It’s rare that I hear a band that good.

Indeed, the Do Makes have quite the talent. The three hymn’s was the best album of 2003.
