God help us…
That was my thought today, as I walked back out to my car after casting my vote in this year’s election. It doesn’t matter who is elected - or appointed by the courts, considering all of the lawyers waiting to jump all over the results - a lot is riding on the next 4 years. It seems like such an easy choice, until you’re actually staring at the ballot, your pencil poised and ready to mark your decision.
Did I do enough research? Did I think through all of the issues? Do I really know what this person stands for? Do I really know what I stand for? Those were the questions that went through my mind. For some, I’m sure this election was an easy choice. Maybe Bush is a warmongering idiot who should never be allowed near the Oval Office ever again. Or maybe Kerry is an untrustworthy flip-flopper who can’t hold a rock-solid opinion to save his life, or anyone else’s. I thought it was an easy choice, but I had a heavy and confused heart in the voting booth today.
I’ll be heading over to an Election Day party in a little bit, but I don’t feel much like partying. I’m too worried for the next 4 years, and about the consequences of my vote. But at least I voted.
I hope you did too.

November 3, 2004 9:36amThoughts from the Grand Election Day party, and some pithy quotes…

We watched the Election coverage on ABC, and was it just me, or did Peter Jennings become a bigger choad as the evening wore on? You could tell he was getting tired, was getting desperate for anything to talk about (hence the constant pulling “news” out of our collective butts approach), growing increasingly curt with his guests, etc. You could tell that Stephanopolous was getting more fed up with Jennings as the night went on.

November 3, 2004 12:21pmI’m totally depressed now. Maybe looking through Canadian real-estate sites will help. I’ll pick my head up soon and then the real fighting begins. Join MoveOn.org or any other number of organizations that keep a watchful eye on the too-right machinations of this administration. You think the last four years were fucked!?!? It’s gonna get worse, especially since there will be some vacant spots soon on the Supreme Court. Yes we’re divided and no we’re not unifying behind this regime! Sorry.

November 3, 2004 6:11pmI recieved an email from http://www.worldviewweekend.com yesterday sometime before I left to go vote. This is what it said, and I quote- “I believe anyone that does not vote on Tuesday is sinning and anyone that votes for Kerry is committing an even greater sin!“
This being the first time I could vote, I was pretty excited to go and vote. But man, having other people of my religion saying things like that…I find it a little disturbing…
But anyways. I wasn’t too impressed with either candidate, but it felt good to take part in this. My biggest issue with Bush is his spending habits, but it doesn’t look like it will get any better, what with the Republicans still controlling Congress.
