Jonathan Inc.
I’ve been meaning to post this (along with many other things) for several days now. I was remarking to a friend of mine that I’ve been inundated with an unusually sizable amount of great music in the past few weeks. Unfortunately, the past two weeks have been insanely busy and I’ve been unable to catch up. This weekend promises to be a bit more relaxed, so hopefully I’ll be able to catch up.
Near the top of the “To Be Reviewed” pile is Jonathan Inc.‘s Things Done And Left Undone, which is just about some of the best pop I’ve heard in a long time, chock full of hearttugging hooks, lush melodies, and shimmering arrangements (imagine, if you will, a more orchestrated and musically ambitious version of Pedro The Lion). The band recently completed the first leg of their Canadian tour, and is getting ready to head back out next week with A Northern Chorus (whose Spirit Flags has been in pretty constant rotation over the past week or so).
The tourdates are…
» June 16 - Regina - Easy Alibi
» June 17 - Calgary - Broken City
» June 18 - Calgary
» June 19 - Vancouver - Railway Club
In the meantime, check out the band’s website or Paste Music for more info, including a couple of MP3s.
And hopefully, I’ll have a couple of reviews available this weekend.

June 10, 2004 2:36pmNow, maybe I’m biased because I know them. But I would agree with your review of the new Jonathan Inc. disc. It has been in regular rotation (sometimes being played 3-4 times in a row) in my car for months now. I get one or two albums a year that I love and this one leaves only one available slot. I have a couple live shows on video (one on CD) if you’re interested. There have been a few shit reviews of them (one declaring them to be akin to Dave Matthews—I kid you not) so I was pleased as punch to see this one. Keep enjoying it!

June 11, 2004 9:01amHeh… I saw your name in the “thank you”‘s and was going to write you about that. It is a very listenable album. It’s been in my computer at work quite a bit, and I usually end up listening to it 2-3 times in a row. Hopefully, I’ll get a full-length review written this weekend—and no, there will be no Dave comparisons. Whoever made those is on some serious crack.

June 15, 2004 3:25pmYeah, I did get thanked on that list. Now my goal is to be closer to the top of the list on the next album .
I think it’s such a full record. The vocals are brilliantly harmonized but not too polished, the instrumentation leaves nothing to be desired and the songwriting demonstrates that pop hooks can be introduced in a different structure and work incredibly well. In today’s market of downtrodden, lonely and heartbroken artists, it’s nice to hear some good music that bears no resemblance to a dirge.
