Sæglópur

When I picked up Sigur RósTakk… last year, I’ll be honest: I was basically prepared to be underwhelmed.  I thought I’d heard everything the group had to offer, that there was little they do to improve on their formula of gigantic string arrangements, glacial swells of bowed guitar, and Jonsi’s elfin vocals.

But I was wrong.

Takk… floored me.  It was nothing I hadn’t heard before from the group, but their sound was so enthusiastic and joyous, I couldn’t help but get caught up in it.  And that was due in large part to such fantastic songs as “Sé Lest” if you don’t believe me). And tracks such as “Glósóli” and “Sæglópur”.

And speaking of “Sæglópur”, Iceland’s most famous sons will be released two-disc EP for the song.  The first disc will contain “Sæglópur” and three other tracks.  The second disc will be a DVD containing the videos for “Glósóli”, “Hoppípolla”, and “Sæglópur”.  Although, if you’re the impatient type, you can watch the videos for “Glósóli” and “Sæglópur” courtesy of boardsmag.com.

The Sæglópur EP will be released here in North America on July 11 via The Workers’ Institute.  Those of you who live outside of the States can pick it up on July 10 from EMI Records.

Actually, it looks like it might be on iTunes on the 11th, but we’ll have to wait until August 8 to get it on disc.

I want the DVD, so I’ll be waiting for this.  Besides, July 11 is Sufjan Yorke day.  I’m not sure I could handle Sigur on top.
